About Our Chapter
We currently have over 40 volunteer Host Families who have been processed in order to serve in Anderson/Muncie, Indiana. They are supported by their churches who provide varying supportive services and tangible items such as diapers, car seats or meals. You can find out more about our families who host in the Gallery tab.
Check out a local host family story by Eric and Kristin Stayer of Park Place Church of God in Anderson:
Our amazing volunteers are the ones who take the movement of Safe Families for Children into the community. But they can’t do it alone. They are supported by a staff of professionals passionately investing their lives into engaging churches, building a base of volunteers, transitioning children, family coach supervision, vetting and training volunteers and so much more.
Emma Johnson - Director of Madison County
Emma Johnson is the Director of Safe Families for Children of Madison County. She has been a local to the Pendleton/Anderson area for a good part of the last 20 years. She graduated from Seattle Pacific University with a Bachelor’s degree in English in 2011. After leaving Seattle, she and her husband spent 4 years running a business in Alaska before returning to Pendleton, Indiana with their 2 children. Emma didn’t plan on becoming a host family or the Director of a Safe Families in Madison County, but God had other plans for her! She and her husband have built a long term relationship with their first Safe Families' hosting and continue to inspire others to do the same. She keeps busy with teaching gymnastics at the YMCA, working full-time with Safe Families. She can often be seen roaming the streets of Pendleton with a few extra kids trailing behind. She also enjoys writing and every so often she blogs about her family’s adventures.
Emma wrote about her families journey of becoming a host family unexpectedly. You can check it out under our "Latest News" section here: http://anderson.safe-families.org/blog/2015/thestorybehindsffcmadco/
