Grandma Terry’s Story of #FamiliesGivingHope

Sometimes, when families begin to consider becoming a host family, I hear them say, “Oh I could only help out on the weekends, I bet that wouldn’t do much would it?”  To a Grandmother with guardianship of her three grandchildren, it does a lot.  Here’s what this thankful Grandmother has to say about her help from Safe Families:

I first started with Safe Families before they started in Madison County. I have been helped by Safe Families for almost four years, first through the Marion County location and now through the Madison County office. When Safe Families came to Madison County they saw the need here and wanted to branch out to help reach more families. There are several host families that have been in my life helping me with respite of these three beautiful grandbabies of mine. My oldest grandchild has issues and therefore needs consistency more than the younger two; he doesn’t deal with change very well so Safe Families has always done their best to keep him with the same host family.   He just loves Michelle and Phil, the host family parents, and I know that they love him too.

Safe Families has looked at the need of my grandkids first and always kept the kids where they are most comfortable. Emma Johnson and the host families have never looked down on me and have always been so very encouraging. I just see so much love with all the host families that I have been involved with, and greatly appreciate everything that Safe Families stands for! All three of the kiddos have their favorite host families and when they can’t be with their “favorites” these kids are still made to feel loved and secure by whichever host they are with. I know sometimes the families have dealt with the homesickness that the children go through but never once have these children refused to go back to any of the families they have spent time with.

Terry sharing her story

Safe Families is always giving in one form or another; there is such a need for the help, tenderness and love that they stand for. Not only has Safe Families given me respite care, they have also help by giving clothing, encouragement, a hug, an ear to listen, and assistance during Christmas… but most of all they give LOVE! Thank you Safe Families of Madison County for all you do, and thank you Emma Johnson for stepping up to the plate and making Safe Families successful in Madison County. I also want to thank each and every person that has helped my family in all capacities. May God Bless each and every one of you!!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!!”
