It’s Okay To Ask For Help

April is Child Abuse Prevention month, and at Safe Families of Central Indiana* we are doing our part to prevent child abuse and neglect the Safe Families way. states that there were more than 3 million reports of child abuse or neglect made nation-wide in 2015.  In the state of Indiana, children are being abused and neglected at an unprecedented rate. In July 2015 the number of children entering into the foster care system had increased by 26 percent, and over 18,000 kids are in foster care.

How can Safe Families make a difference with these alarming statistics?  We can let parents in crisis know we’re here.

Ask for help-4 (1)

Safe Families strives to prevent child neglect and abuse before it starts.  We allow parents who are in crisis the opportunity ask for help by choosing to place their child in the home of a safe family, thereby giving themselves time and resources to get back on their feet.  Our host families are recruited through local churches, they are screened, trained and volunteer to help children in need.  Our goal is to let parents in need know we are here to help before abuse and neglect occurs.  We want to empower parents, and let them know they have options when it comes to the safety and well-being of their children.

Safe Families believes in helping others during their time of need through Biblical hospitality.  Our host families act as the hands and feet of Jesus to families in crisis, and our Family Coaches work one-on-one with parents to show them love and support.  We extend this type of love and support to others because of the love and forgiveness God has first shown us.

Check out this placing parents story and why she says, “They made it so easy, I felt guilty.”
